Job Title: Overnight Camp
Counselor
FLSA: Seasonal - Part-time/Temporary
Reports To: Staff Supervisor
The following statements are intended to
describe the general nature and level of work being performed. They are not
intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities,
duties and skills required of personnel so classified.
SUMMARY:
Gospel Hill Camp, an established day/resident camp situated on Snail Lake in
Shoreview, Minnesota. With minimal supervision an overnight counselor will
provide supervision and guidance to several squads of camp participants.
Assist boys/girls by providing opportunities for them to make wise choices
regarding their emotional, physical, social, mental, and spiritual
development.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Counselors spend the day working with
their campers and participating in all activities with them.
-
Provide supervision of children while
having FUN at the same time!
-
Ensure campers are challenged and
enriched thorough a variety of activities such as swimming, sports, and
creative arts.

Responsible for the overall safety of
campers.
-
Provide patience, compassion, great
listening and communication skills, Christian spirit and the ability to
relate to children.

Acquaints each camper with the facilities
and rules.
-
Help campers to mix with others and
assist those with social and emotional problems.
-
Assist Day Camp Counselors in preparation
for the camp season.
-
Must enjoy working as part of a team to
accomplish overall program goals.

Miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Overnight Responsibilities:
-
On the first day greet each of your
campers and help them get settled in your cabin
-
Sit with your campers at meals
-
Encourage personal and cabin cleanliness
-
Supervise cabin clean-up. Let campers do
the work but help direct them
-
Be aware of all activities and any change
in schedule
-
Encourage promptness throughout the day,
including lights out
-
Fill out camper evaluation form at end of
the week
-
Assist in program instruction whenever
needed
-
Sleep in campers quarters at nighttime
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
High school graduate plus a minimum of one year additional education.
Previous experience working at a camp is desirable but not required. Current
CPR certification required.

Strong interpersonal and communication
skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of
constituencies in a diverse community.

Able to attend pre-camp orientation and
successfully complete all required Staff Training Sessions.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL
EFFORT:
-
Work is normally performed in a flexible
environment, requiring the incumbent work both inside and outside.

Must be able to lift and carry 20-30 lbs.
-
Moderate exposure to physical risk.
