Job Title: Food Service Worker -
Level I (Naomi Family Center)
Type: Non-Exempt
Reports To: Food Service Supervisor
Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities is a

SUMMARY:
Assists workers engaged in preparing foods and beverages for one or more
food service outlets by cleaning work areas, equipment, and utensils,
assisting in food preparation, set up, and service, and collection of
garbage and trash. Serves a range of hot and cold food items.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Conveys food and supplies from the main
kitchen, bakery, and/or salad preparation area to the serving site either by
carrying or by utilizing a motorized cart.

Follows prescribed procedures in setting
up hot and cold food lines; chooses proper utensils and sets steam line to
appropriate temperature for menu items.

Mixes ingredients to make dressings,
fillings, and spreads; may slice cold meats, cheeses, and vegetables.

May serve a range of hot and cold food
items from counters and steam tables; adds relishes and garnishes according
to instructions.

As needed, replenishes foods, silverware,
glassware, dishes, and trays at serving stations; may order and replenish
condiments.

Cleans and maintains work areas,
including floors, facilities, utensils, and equipment; collects and places
garbage and trash in designated containers.

Washes pots, pans, and other serviceware
ensuring sanitary handling; organizes and replaces serviceware to
appropriate location.

Attends to day-to-day problems and needs
concerning equipment and food supplies; detects and ensures disposition of
spoiled or unattractive food, defective supplies/equipment, and/or other
unusual conditions.

Has experience with CACFP and/or SFSP.
(Child and Adult Care Food Program/Summer Food Service Program).

Performs miscellaneous job-related duties
as assigned.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or GED preferred, excellent work history required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
REQUIRED:
- Ability to read and write.
- Knowledge of supplies, equipment,
and/or services ordering and inventory control.
- Ability to follow routine verbal
and written instructions.
- Ability to safely use cleaning
equipment and supplies.
- Ability to understand and follow
safety procedures.
- Knowledge of food service lines
set-up and temperature requirements.
- Knowledge of food preparation and
presentation methods, techniques, and quality standards.
- Ability to lift and manipulate
heavy objects.
- Able to support UGM’s statement of
Christian faith and share that faith and knowledge with staff and clients.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
Position requires: a) Cleaning and maintaining food service facilities,
utensils and equipment; b) collecting and disposing of trash; c) washing
pots, pans and other serviceware; d) assisting in food preparation and
conveying food to serving site; and e) ability to obtain Minnesota Food
Handler's Certificate.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL
EFFORT:
- Work involves moderate exposure to
unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke,
unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
- Moderate physical activity.
Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing
and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
- Work environment involves some
exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic
safety precautions.
