Volunteer
Reports To: Director of Chaplains
The following statements are intended to
describe the general nature and level of work being performed. They are not
intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities,
duties and skills required of personnel so classified.
SUMMARY:
The Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities is seeking to change lives with the
Gospel within the community. Volunteer Chaplains provide support to the
Director of Chaplains who oversees spiritual care for all clients at the
Mission. In particular, Volunteer Chaplains provide general spiritual care
and limited case management functions for all residents of the men’s
campus.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides spiritual care to men’s campus
men who are in transitional process including periodic pastoral follow-up
via visitation, prayer, non-therapeutic counsel, and spiritual direction.

Participates in the Dormitory and Bethel
Hotel Case Management programs including client intake and tracking as
required.

Supports and in some cases directs the
daily evening chapel program including staffing and adherence to program
policies and procedures and staffing.

The Volunteer Chaplain will also be
called upon for preaching, teaching, leading devotionals, prayer and other
spiritual and administrative activities as required.

Assists in the designs, implementation,
and evaluation of resident programs that provide direction, encouragement,
support, and resources for improving their quality of life.

Fosters a co-operative work environment
with other Mission programs to ensure that program goals and objectives are
achieved.

Confers with the Chaplain Director and
other administrative personnel to review achievements and issues impacting
reaching targeting goals.

Responsible for maintaining client
confidentiality in accordance with HIPPA Privacy Regulations.

Performs miscellaneous job-related duties
as assigned.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Associate Degree in a ministry or
ministry-related field preferred, but will consider life experience in
lieu of degree (if life experience includes a ministry credential from a
recognized credentialing body).
- Significant ministry activity and
leadership in a local congregation.
- One year experience in a related
field.
- Be willing to participate in
on-going educational opportunities and certifications.
- Must work at least one, four-hour
chapel shift every two weeks.

REQUIRED:

Strong interpersonal and communication
skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of
constituencies in a diverse community.

Effective leadership and management
abilities.

Knowledge of principles and practices of
training, evaluating and providing work direction to others.

Ability to implement program guidelines
and offer suggestions for improvement.

Competent in use of computers and
Microsoft Office software applications.

Ability to be self motivated and
demonstrate initiative.

Able to support UGM’s statement of
Christian faith and share that faith and knowledge with staff and clients.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL
EFFORT:
-
Work is normally performed in a typical
interior/office work environment.

No or very limited exposure to physical
risk.
