Job Title: Volunteer Teacher -
Latino Survival English Class
Reports To: Director of Latino Ministries
Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities is a
Christian ministry dedicated to serving the homeless, poor, and addicted in
our community. By meeting physical, spiritual, emotional, and educational
needs, our Mission is changing lives!
SUMMARY:
The Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities is seeking to change lives with the
Gospel and practical services. The Latino Ministries Department Volunteer
English Teachers provide the opportunity for low income, poor new immigrant
Latinos to learn English and the American Culture. In addition, the Latino
Ministry Department Volunteer English Teacher develops friendships, gains
trust, and guides low income Latino immigrants in making life better for
them in the USA.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Facilitates systematic simple English
instruction to Spanish speaking adult, youth and children foreign learners.

Able to make application from study to
real-life issues that Latino clients face on a daily basis.

Provides spiritual care to students
including prayer, and spiritual Biblical direction.

Fosters a co-operative work environment
with other Volunteer teachers participating in the program to ensure that
program goals and objectives are achieved.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Demonstrated Christian maturity and passion for ministry. Must complete a
background check with no history of violence or sexual offenses. Able to
teach at least two classes in the evenings per month.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
REQUIRED:

Ability to be self motivated and
demonstrate initiative.

Able to support the Union Gospel
Mission’s statement of Christian faith and share that faith and knowledge
with staff and clients.

Ability to speak Spanish.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL
EFFORT:
-
Work is normally performed in a typical
interior/office work environment.
-
No or very limited exposure to physical
risk.
