Gift Acceptance Policies and Guidelines
Making sure that gifts meet the needs of donors and the Union Gospel
Mission
The Union Gospel Mission has a Board
approved Gift Acceptance Policies and Guidelines. The purpose of
these policies and guidelines is as follows:
These policies and guidelines govern the
acceptance of gifts by the Union Gospel Mission and provide guidance to
prospective donors and their advisors when making gifts to the Union Gospel
Mission. The provisions of these policies shall apply to all gifts received
for any of its programs or services:
-
To protect the interests of the donor and
of the Union Gospel Mission.
-
To make certain all gifts to the Union
Gospel Mission are structured to provide maximum benefits to the donor
and to the Union Gospel Mission.
-
To encourage interested donors to make
gifts without encumbering their own or the Union Gospel Mission’s
financial or other resources.
-
To optimize opportunities to secure gifts
for the Union Gospel Mission without compromising or endangering the
reputation of the Union Gospel Mission.
The Union Gospel Mission will accept
unrestricted gifts, and gifts for specific programs and purposes, provided
that such gifts are not inconsistent with its stated mission, purposes, and
priorities. The Union Gospel Mission may choose not to accept certain gifts
for several reasons, including that the gift is to restrictive in purpose or
difficult to administer. Gifts that are too restrictive are those that
violate the terms of the bylaws, gifts that are too difficult to administer,
or gifts that are for purposes outside the mission of the Union Gospel
Mission. The Gift Acceptance Committee of the Union Gospel Mission shall
make all final decisions on the restrictive nature of a gift, and its
acceptance or refusal.
