Teen Outreach
Rejuvenated Ober Youth and family Center gets Frogtown hopping and
hoping...
The Mission has a long history of
reaching out to young people. Our Ober Club for boys and girls was a
landmark in the Frogtown neighborhood for many years. Then, through a series
of shifting demographics as well as building and staffing challenges, this
particular program went on a temporary hiatus. But all of that is changing.
Through our generous donors and partnerships with a variety of community
organizations, the building has been completely remodeled and now includes a
community gymnasium, game room, and on-sight residence for the new
directors. Developing partnerships with Bethel University’s Frogtown
outreach, Northwestern College students and faculty, and other organizations
is bringing an added dimension of support.
The programs, methods, and kids may look
a little different than they did 50 years ago, but the goal remains the
same: to offer help, hope and a home away from home to all those who are
precious in His sight. With an emphasis on interracial harmony, UGM isn't
just resurrecting a building, we're resurrecting the hopes and dreams of the
very people Jesus once said we should all strive to imitate. Once again, the
Ober Center is becoming a landmark in Saint Paul's Frogtown neighborhood.
