Volunteers
Connecting people in need with people who care...
Thousands of volunteers reach out in
hundreds of different ways to help homeless and needy people change their
lives. But it's not merely the needy people that are impacted. Just ask
someone who has volunteered at the Mission–they'll tell you that the life
most impacted is their own.

Group Opportunities -
Youth Group or other Groups
Prepare
and Serve a Meal
Meals are served every Friday evening at 6:15 p.m. to families and
children as part of our FridayROCK'S Program in Minneapolis. Groups
will be asked to arrive at the Oliver Ministries Center on Bloomington
Avenue South and 27th Street between 4:30 and 5:00 to prepare the meal.
Additional options
include, bringing meal supplies for approximately 50-60 participants. (i.e.
spaghetti, pizza, sloppy joes, pot roast). Groups may also join in and help
in additional activities on these evenings (crafts, Bible sessions, gym
time, reading appreciation, etc.)
In the summer, we anticipate doing our
program out of the local park. We will do community meals (hot dogs,
watermelon, kool aid, etc.) These can be great opportunities for groups to
experience or train for community outreach.
Recreational Events
Is your youth group or family considering a recreational event like
roller skating, trip to the zoo, bowling, etc.? Consider making it a
"service" outreach at the same time? Without significant additional expense
you may be able to resource and build connections with families in the
cities.
Plan a "Mission Trip"
Consider using the Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities as a resource and site
for a mission trip. We are planning to conduct some “camps in the
neighborhoods” this summer. A youth group or collection of families can
get experiential learning in community outreach.
Special Events
Are you planning to conduct a Vacation Bible School, a drama or a puppet
program at your church? Consider duplicating this event! Do it once at your
church and once in “our neighborhood”.
For more information about any of
these Group Activities, please contact Roger Quant - Minneapolis Programs
Coordinator at 651 228-1800 x316 or
