Education and Job Training

The Mission provides a personalized approach to education and job training. Instructors and volunteers guide each student into life-sustaining professions.

Our residents come from every background, from people in their later years who have never worked a job to professionals who fell into an unproductive lifestyle. From residents who never completed high school to men or women with higher degrees, all full-time residents at the Mission participate in our Adult Education and Job Training program

The program consists of LifeNet, the education program, and Career Services. This opportunity takes residents from where they are to where they want to go, building on their education and life experience to guide them into a self-sustaining future.

Individualized program

All residents in the Mission’s 3 full-time programs (Christ Recovery Center, Discipleship, and the Naomi Family Program) attend the Education and Job Training program. The Mission provides individualized learning plans for each resident in the LifeNet Education Program based on assessments:

  • Initial testing to determine learning and mental health status once the resident enters a full-time program.
  • Education assessments to determine levels in math, reading, and other subjects once enrolled in the adult education and job training program after initial requirements are met.
  • Additional testing if a learning disability is suspected. Results are reviewed by the Clinical Director, who provides a diagnosis and helps the Director of Education to create an appropriate remediation plan.

3-Phase approach

LifeNet, the education program, consists of 3 phases:

Ready Stabilization Phase: residents participate in Bible study, academic studies including GED if they need it, digital literacy, and writing. They begin to understand their unique giftings and how to be their personal best while growing in communication and other soft skills. They also take note of their positive relationships and begin fostering a healthy,  productive lifestyle as they begin thinking about their life plans.

Set Recovery Phase: In the second phase, residents continue working on their academic and soft skills while exploring career options. They begin to gather information they need for a job application and work on building career-related attitudes and skills.

Go Transition Phase: In this phase, residents become more intentional about preparing for the job search by participating in mock interviews, identifying a job search strategy, and preparing a skills-based resume.

In the first two phases, residents also have the opportunity to choose electives to help expose them to new skills and interests.

Career Services

Throughout our adult education program, residents prepare for work outside the Mission through curricula and workshops that help them take their experiences and skills to the next opportunity. More than that, residents are led to dream about their God-given passions and helped to realize those dreams.

Once residents obtain jobs, the care doesn’t end there.

Residents are coached with help from our Career Services staff so they can succeed in their roles. Each resident is  encouraged to continue growing their careers through more suitable opportunities, furthering their educations, or finding volunteer roles that meet their passions and skills.
