People come to the Mission for a variety of reasons. It could be because of a recent job loss. Maybe they lived in another city and need to escape harmful people or influences. Or maybe they are ready to get off the streets due to drug or alcohol addiction or other setbacks.
Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities welcomes anyone who comes through our doors. A brief intake assessment helps us point the visitor in the right direction, whether that is our emergency shelter, transitional housing, or our full-time programs in Discipleship or Addiction Recovery.
Transitional housing
The Mission provides emergency shelter for at least 52 men per night, plus transitional housing for up to 24 months for men seeking a permanent home. Residents are assisted in their transition with the help of Support Services.
Our transitional housing residents also participate in weekly Bible studies and classes in:
- Boundaries
- Budgeting
- Life Skills
- Anger Management
Men are assisted with financial management and are encouraged to grow in their faith through church attendance and fellowship.
Discipleship program
The full-time residential Discipleship program provides housing and structure to men who want to grow in Christ in attitude and behavior. Residents grow in:
- Spirituality
- Education
- Work readiness
- Job search skills
They also participate in daily devotions and regular Bible studies along with classes in:
- Financial management
- Genesis Change group
- Boundaries
- Anger management
Addiction recovery
Men in late-stage addiction find hope at the Christ Recovery Center located at the Men’s Campus of Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities. The program combines the principles of Alcoholics Anonymous with an evangelical Christianity. Residents attend multiple AA meetings a week as well as Bible studies.

Resources
All men participating in full-time programming at the Mission have access to the following resources to assist them as they work toward self-sufficiency:
Addiction recovery. The Mission assists men and women in their recovery from drug or alcohol addiction through support in all of our full-time programs.
Mental health. A mental health clinic is available onsite to help remove barriers for men receiving the help they need.
Discipleship. Residents at Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities are encouraged to grow in their relationships with Christ and to understand how to live out their faith in practical ways.
Education and job training. All residents in full-time programming at the Mission attend Adult Education and Training. The program consists of our education program and support from Career Services.
Food and shelter. Our residents and guests have access to 3 meals a day along with safe shelter.
Medical care. Medical care is available each week through Community Health Services right onsite for the convenience of residents and guests.
Mentoring and counseling. Through chaplains and other staff, men at the Mission find guidance as they work through spiritual and emotional concerns.
