Graduates of our residential programs may get out of homelessness and poverty more quickly and permanently when they enroll at 2- or 4-year colleges or trade schools upon completion. Higher education helps to remove the burden of generational poverty, benefiting families for years to come.

For this reason, Ron and Michele Sznaider have created the Joshua Sznaider Scholarship fund. This fund will help provide scholarships to Mission graduates with financial need who have overcome addiction or mental health challenges.

About Joshua

The Sznaiders established this scholarship in honor of their son, Joshua. As a student of history and avid traveler, he believed in racial and economic equality. Upon earning his MBA, Joshua planned to start businesses in Africa to help people in need to develop economic self-reliance.

Over the years, Joshua had experimented with substances. After attending treatment, he had a mental health incident in 2012. The situation led to an ill-fated encounter with police, who restrained him in a choke hold from which he later died.

The family would like Joshua’s legacy to live on through this scholarship by helping others to gain economic self-sufficiency through higher education.
