Gospel Hill Camp is an established resident camp located at Snail Lake in Shoreview, Minnesota. Our Camp is a Jesus-centered ministry dedicated to creating a safe and fun environment for children, youth and families of underserved communities.
Position Summary
A Camp Counselor is responsible for leading children and youth during day or overnight camps. Each counselor position will have its own responsibilities, but will be expected to assist in other areas of camp. All staff work together to model the love of Jesus and encourage the campers’ growth mentally, spiritually, emotionally, and socially.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide a safe, fun, and inclusive environment for all campers
- Actively participate and engage in staff spiritual enrichment activities including morning devotions
- Provide clear communication to campers regarding expectations, guidance procedures, and daily schedules
- Model patience, compassion, great listening and communication skills, Christian spirit, and the ability to relate to children and teens and other staff
- Lead and participate in camp electives such as swimming, sports, and creative arts in ways that are creative and engaging
- Intentionally engage campers and staff in all activities
- Encourage each other to accomplish overall program goals
- Live with assigned campers or staff
- Organize supplies and assist in cleaning camp common areas
- Miscellaneous camp duties as assigned
Minimum Job Requirements
- A strong candidate will be a high school graduate and be a minimum of 18 years of age, preferably with at least one year of additional education. This person will demonstrate Christian maturity and have the ability to work with children and teens. Previous experience working at a camp or with youth is valued but not required
- The Camp Counselor’s employment is June 1, 2015 – August 14, 2015. Counselors are required to stay on site Sunday evening through Friday afternoon. Time off can be requested through the Camp Director but is not guaranteed.

- Able to support UGM’s statement of Christian faith and share that faith and knowledge with campers and staff
- Able to consistently follow through and meet requirements
- Demonstrates a high level of motivation and self initiative
- Must enjoy working as part of a team to accomplish overall program goals
- Demonstrate emotional stability, good health, and physical ability
- Competent, cooperative, and compassionate
- Demonstrates a high level of leadership and emotional maturity
- Able to quickly define and solve problems
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse community
- Able to attend pre-camp orientation and successfully complete all required staff training sessions
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
- Work is performed in varying indoor and outdoor environments
- Work requires pushing, pulling, reaching, crouching, stooping, walking, twisting, carrying, and other physical activities
- Able to lift and carry 20-30 lbs
