The goal of the Men’s Discipleship Program is to encourage behavior change through the spiritual, educational, and career growth of participants. It does this through spiritual guidance and education; work therapy; and recovery, life and basic education training and mentoring.

Position Summary

The Program Manager is responsible for supporting a healthy residential environment and managing the work therapy component of the Discipleship Program in accordance with program objectives. This is done through the coordination of work therapy participant assignments, managing scheduling, training participants and monitoring their work performance. The Program Manager also supports the residential environment of the program by providing guidance to participants, monitoring and resolving conflict between participants and provides timely case management documentation and input.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages work therapy component of Discipleship program, including scheduling and assigning work for up to 22 employees, training, supervising work and monitoring performance.
  • Coordinates with Warehouse Manager to find Discipleship participants to assist with non-work therapy work requests.
  • Develops procedures and methods for implementing work therapy component of program.
  • Evaluates and reports on work therapy effectiveness and expense management relative to Discipleship program objectives.
  • Manages the Discipleship supervisor(s).
  • Monitors the assignment of participant housing. Provides general guidance and conflict resolution to participants, monitors participants for drug and alcohol use and adherence to program policy, escalating violent and emergency situations to security as needed.
  • Obtains certification and serves as Genesis Relapse Prevention Counselor, providing 1 on 1 support for up to 4 men.
  • Meets daily with participants to provide mentoring and discipleship.
  • Documents participant progress through detailed and timely PIE (problem, intervention, evaluation) notes in Client Track software.
  • Completes all participant program admittance paperwork and communications. Completion of administrative tasks in a timely manner is critically important in this role.
  • Responsible for addressing minor discipline issues/write-ups, documenting issue in Client Track case notes, communicating and enforcing disciplinary measures.
  • Provides feedback and input to Director of Discipleship and Program Chaplain on participant progress and program recommendations.
  • Facilitates groups and teaches a weekly Bible class.
  • Plans, leads and supervises social and recreational outings for participants.
  • Assists Program Chaplain with logistics, planning and supervising spiritual retreats for participants.
  • Confers with the Director of Discipleship and other administrative personnel to review achievements and issues impacting Discipleships program goals.
  • Attends internal and external seminars and training on vocational training for case managers.
  • Aids Director with ADP when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Associates degree or equivalent experience required.
  • 1 year supervisory experience.
  • 1 year case management experience in residential recovery setting.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy.
  • Valid driver’s license and be insurable by UGMTC insurance carrier.
  • Ability to live on campus, preferred.
  • Demonstrate Christ-like behavior and attitude in all job duties and responsibilities.
  • Current UGMTC clients and UGMTC clients with less than two years since program graduation are ineligible.

  • Able to implement program guidelines and offer suggestions for improvement.
  • Must be able to operate Microsoft suites; ClientTrack and other business related software.
  • Able to be self-motivated and demonstrate initiative.
  • Able to support UGM’s statement of Christian faith and share that faith and knowledge with staff and clients.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Work is performed in an emergency shelter / transitional housing environment
  • Work involves physical effort encountered in emergency shelter and office environment with occasional outside work required
  • Must be able to lift 15-25 lbs.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may, on occasion, be exposed to angry or violent clients or community members.
