The Warehouse & Donation Center receives, organizes, and distributes physical donations from the community and coordinates the ordering and management of supplies, furniture and equipment for Union Gospel Mission facilities.

Position Summary

The Warehouse Manager is responsible for overseeing a variety of warehouse activities related to physical donations, supplies, furniture and equipment including, ordering, receiving, organizing, fulfilling, delivering, maintenance, managing inventory, record management and reporting, and maintaining the organization and cleanliness of the facility.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervises and assists in daily warehouse activities including: filling and delivering internal orders, ensuring accuracy of orders, shipments and supporting documentation, receiving incoming material and routing to appropriate areas of the Warehouse/Donation Center.
  • Ensures inventories are performed accurately, timely, and manages existing donation inventories to cull/keep current.
  • Partners with internal managers, community members and other social service agencies/businesses to determine and secure UGM needs. Performs donation pick ups, as needed.
  • Orders cleaning, maintenance, and other supplies.
  • Manages UGM’s vehicle fleet, including vehicle usage, licensure and regular maintenance and repair.
  • Utilizes computer systems and processes to document and maintain accurate records.
  • Collaborates with internal staff to coordinate, schedule and monitor the needs and activities of individual departments including event set up and physical office/furniture moves.
  • Supervises team of Warehouse/Donation Center staff, including responsibility for hiring, training, planning and assigning work, scheduling, evaluating performance, giving feedback, addressing employee issues.
  • Creates opportunities for volunteers to assist in the work of the Warehouse/Donation Center, providing direction and supervision to volunteer groups.
  • Interpret and uphold company policies with employees and volunteers, enforcing safety regulations.
  • Develops and maintains departmental work instructions and safety procedures for all tasks.
  • Responsible for the effectiveness and efficiency of the Warehouse/Donation Center operations, including developing measures to improve quality of service, equipment performance, and ongoing continuous improvement of warehouse operations; reports on departmental results.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties, as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Associates degree or equivalent experience
  • 3 years of relevant warehouse experience
  • 1 year supervisory experience
  • Valid drivers license
  • Valid forklift certification

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Basic math skills required
  • Computer literate with proficiency Microsoft Office Word and Excel
  • Strong administrative management and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong team orientation; able to work effectively with staff in the coordination of support activities
  • Personal initiative, motivational and problem solving skills.
  • Able to support UGM’s statement of Christian faith and share that faith and knowledge with staff and clients.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Must be able to do repetitive squatting, lifting, stooping, standing, bending, and other physical movements
  • Occasional climbing of ladders; use of pallet jacks.
  • Must be able to lift 40lbs repeatedly
  • Work is completed in a shelter setting; while performing the duties of this job, the employee may, on occasion, be exposed to angry or violent clients or community members.
